How England performed

England finished fourth in the 2019–21 World Test Championship, winning 11, drawing three and losing seven of their 21 Tests between August 2019 and March 2021.

The cycle opened with the home Ashes, drawn 2–2: defeats at Birmingham and Manchester were matched by a one-wicket win at Leeds and a 135-run win at The Oval. England then won three of their four Tests in South Africa, beat West Indies 2–1 at home and took their series against Pakistan 1–0, with two draws at Southampton. Two wins in Galle took them to India, where a 227-run victory in the first Test at Chennai was followed by three defeats, the last by an innings and 25 runs at Ahmedabad.
