How England performed
The Red Roses won the 2014 Women's Rugby World Cup in France under head coach Gary Street, finishing unbeaten with four wins and a draw from five matches. The pool stage at the CNR in Marcoussis began with a 65–3 win over Samoa and a 45–5 victory over Spain, before a 13–13 draw with Canada.
England moved to the Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris for the knockout rounds, beating Ireland 40–7 in the semi-final. The final, at the same ground on 17 August, brought a second meeting with Canada, and this time England won 21–9 to take the title. Across the tournament they scored 184 points and conceded 37, and no opponent scored more than 13 points against them. It was an improvement on 2010, when the Red Roses had finished as runners-up.
