How England performed
The Red Roses reached the final of the 1991 Women's Rugby World Cup, with S. Dowling as head coach and Karen Almond as captain. England opened with a 12–0 win over Spain in Swansea on 6 April and followed it two days later with a 25–9 victory over Italy at Llanharan.
The semi-final against France at Cardiff Arms Park ended in a 13–0 win, England's second clean sheet of the tournament. In the final, at the same ground on 14 April, the United States won 19–6, and England finished as runners-up. Their record was three wins and one defeat from four matches, with 56 points scored and 28 conceded. England's defence allowed only nine points across their three victories before conceding 19 in the final.
