England: Champions (Triple Crown)
How England performed
England retained the championship in 1996 and won the Triple Crown, despite losing their opening match 12–15 to France at Parc des Princes, Paris.
England then beat Wales 21–15 at Twickenham, London, and Scotland 18–9 at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, before a 28–15 victory over Ireland at Twickenham, London, completed the Triple Crown. Three wins from four were enough for the title. Jack Rowell was coach and Will Carling captain, and England scored 79 points while conceding 54.
